Description

The Instrumentation Amp AD621 is a low-drift, low-power precision instrumentation amplifier from Analog Devices. Its gain is set by pins instead of a precision resistor: 10 with pins 1 and 8 left open, or 100 with a jumper between them. This makes it easy to amplify small differential signals from bridges, load cells and other sensors accurately and with low noise.

Instrumentation Amp AD621 Specifications

  • Type: precision instrumentation amplifier
  • Gain: 10 or 100, pin-strappable (10 to 100 with an external resistor)
  • Supply voltage: ±2.3 V to ±18 V
  • Supply current: 1.3 mA max
  • Total gain error: 0.15% max
  • Total offset voltage: 125 µV max
  • Input voltage noise: 9 nV/√Hz at 1 kHz
  • Bandwidth: 800 kHz at G = 10, 200 kHz at G = 100
  • Pins: 8

Instrumentation Amp AD621 Applications

  • Load cell and strain gauge amplifiers for weighing scales
  • Pressure sensor and bridge sensor interfaces
  • Medical and biosignal measurement circuits
  • Data acquisition front ends for an Arduino or ESP32 ADC
  • Transducer signal conditioning in labs and university projects

What's in the Box

  • 1 × AD621 instrumentation amplifier IC

Tip: Leave pins 1 and 8 open for a gain of 10, or connect them together for a gain of 100. Connect the REF pin (pin 5) to ground, or to the voltage you want the output to sit at with zero input, and decouple both supply pins with 0.1 µF capacitors.
