Description
The Mosfet Transistor IRF4905 is a P-channel power MOSFET in a TO-220 package, rated −55 V and −74 A with an on-resistance of only 20 mΩ. As a P-channel device it suits high-side switching, where the load stays connected to ground and the MOSFET switches the positive supply, and reverse polarity protection on 12 V and 24 V power inputs.
Mosfet Transistor IRF4905 Specifications
- Type: P-channel enhancement-mode power MOSFET
- Drain-source voltage (VDSS): −55 V
- Continuous drain current (ID): −74 A at 25 °C case temperature, with a suitable heat sink
- On-resistance (RDS(on)): 20 mΩ max at VGS = −10 V
- Gate-source voltage (VGS): ±20 V max
- Gate threshold voltage: −2 V to −4 V
- Power dissipation: 200 W at 25 °C case temperature
- Package: TO-220AB, pins gate, drain, source (front view, left to right); the metal tab is the drain
Mosfet Transistor IRF4905 Applications
- High-side load switches for 12 V and 24 V systems
- Reverse polarity protection on power inputs
- Upper switches in H-bridge motor drivers, paired with N-channel MOSFETs
- Battery disconnect and power path switching
- Solar charge controllers and DC power distribution
What's in the Box
- 1 × IRF4905 P-channel MOSFET
Tip: Connect the source to the positive supply and the load to the drain. The MOSFET turns on when the gate is pulled about 10 V below the source and turns off when the gate is at the source voltage, so from an Arduino use an NPN transistor to pull the gate low, with a 10 kΩ resistor from gate to source. On supplies above 20 V, add a zener diode to keep VGS within ±20 V.
