Description
The Mosfet Transistor IRF9540 is a P-channel power MOSFET in a TO-220 package, rated for −100 V and up to −19 A. It is used as a high-side switch for motors, lamps and LED strips, for reverse-polarity protection, in power supplies and audio amplifiers, and as the P-channel partner of the IRF540 in H-bridge motor drivers.
Mosfet Transistor IRF9540 Specifications
- Type: P-channel enhancement-mode power MOSFET
- Drain-source voltage (VDS): −100 V
- Continuous drain current: −19 A with the case at 25 °C
- On-resistance (RDS(on)): 0.20 Ω maximum at VGS = −10 V
- Gate threshold voltage: −2 V to −4 V
- Gate-source voltage: ±20 V maximum
- Package and pinout: TO-220, pins gate, drain, source (G-D-S); the tab is the drain
- N-channel complement: IRF540
Mosfet Transistor IRF9540 Applications
- High-side switching of motors, LED strips and lamps
- H-bridge motor drivers together with the IRF540
- Reverse-polarity protection on DC inputs
- Battery and power-supply switching
- Audio amplifier output stages
What's in the Box
- 1 × IRF9540 P-channel MOSFET
Tip: Connect the source to the positive supply and the load to the drain. The MOSFET turns fully on when the gate is pulled about 10 V below the source, so a 5 V Arduino pin cannot drive it directly; use an NPN transistor to pull the gate low, a pull-up resistor from gate to source, and keep VGS within ±20 V.
