Description

The JoyStick Shield Module turns an Arduino Uno into a handheld controller. It plugs onto the Uno headers and adds an analog thumb joystick with a built-in push switch, plus a set of push buttons, so you can steer robots, control RC vehicles and play simple games without wiring anything on a breadboard.

JoyStick Shield Module Specifications

  • Joystick: 2-axis analog thumb joystick, X and Y read on analog pins
  • Joystick switch: press down on the stick for an extra button
  • Buttons: additional push buttons for actions and menus
  • Fits: Arduino Uno and Uno-size boards
  • Wiring: none needed, the shield connects through the Arduino headers

JoyStick Shield Module Applications

  • Remote controllers for robot cars and RC vehicles, with an RF or Bluetooth module
  • Game controllers and menu navigation
  • Pan-tilt camera control with servos
  • Robot arm control
  • Learning analog inputs in the classroom

What's in the Box

  • 1 × joystick shield module

Tip: Read the joystick with analogRead(); at rest each axis gives a value near 512 on a 5 V Uno, so add a small dead zone in your code to stop drift. Check the markings on the shield to see which Arduino pins the buttons use before writing your sketch.
