L298N IC

The L298N IC is a dual full-bridge (H-bridge) motor driver chip that can drive two DC motors in both directions, or one bipolar stepper motor. It accepts standard TTL logic inputs from an Arduino or ESP32, handles motor supplies up to 46 V with up to 4 A in total, and is the same chip used on the popular L298N motor driver boards, so it suits custom PCBs and repairs.

Tip: The L298N has no internal flyback diodes, so fit fast-recovery diodes from each output to the motor supply and to ground. Mount the chip on a heatsink, and remember that it drops about 2 V or more, so the motor receives less than the supply voltage.
