Description

The Linear Magnetic Hall sensor module measures the strength of a nearby magnetic field. Unlike a simple Hall switch that only turns on or off, a linear Hall sensor gives an analog voltage that changes smoothly as a magnet comes closer or moves away, and the direction of the change shows which pole (north or south) faces the sensor. Read the output with an Arduino or ESP32 analog input to detect position, distance or rotation.

Linear Magnetic Hall sensor Specifications

  • Sensor type: linear (analog) Hall-effect sensor
  • Output: analog voltage proportional to magnetic field strength
  • No magnet present: output sits near half the supply voltage
  • Polarity: output rises for one magnetic pole and falls for the other
  • Format: sensor module with header pins

Linear Magnetic Hall sensor Applications

  • Contactless position and distance sensing with a magnet
  • Measuring rotation speed with a magnet on a wheel or shaft
  • Joystick, throttle and lever position sensing
  • Detecting open or closed doors and lids
  • Learning about magnetic fields in physics and electronics classes

What's in the Box

  • 1 × linear magnetic Hall sensor module

Tip: Use a small neodymium magnet and read the output with analogRead(). Record the value with no magnet nearby first, then measure changes from that reference. Very strong magnets held right against the sensor will saturate the reading, so keep a few millimetres of distance.
