Description
The LM3900 IC contains four independent Norton amplifiers, a type of op-amp that works on the difference between two input currents rather than two input voltages. It was designed for single-supply operation, so it is easy to use in battery and automotive circuits, and it is a favourite for active filters, oscillators, tone generators and classic synthesizer designs.
LM3900 IC Specifications
- Type: quad current-differencing (Norton) amplifier
- Channels: 4 independent amplifiers
- Supply voltage: 4 V to 32 V single supply, or ±2 V to ±16 V
- Unity-gain bandwidth: about 2.5 MHz
- Open-loop gain: about 70 dB
- Output swing: large, up to about VCC − 1 V
- Compensation: internally frequency compensated for unity gain
LM3900 IC Applications
- Active filters and tone controls
- Oscillators, function generators and synthesizer circuits
- AC amplifiers running from a single supply
- Comparators, timers and logic interfaces in automotive and industrial circuits
What's in the Box
- 1 × LM3900 IC
Tip: The LM3900 inputs sit about one diode drop (0.6 V) above ground, so feed signals through series resistors and bias the non-inverting input with a resistor to set the output DC level. It is not a drop-in replacement for voltage op-amps such as the LM324.
