Description
The LM565 IC Phase Locked Loop is a general-purpose PLL integrated circuit that combines a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), a phase detector and an amplifier in one chip. It locks onto an incoming signal and follows its frequency, so it is used for FM and FSK demodulation, tone decoding, frequency synthesis and data synchronisation in communication and test circuits working up to 500 kHz.
LM565 IC Phase Locked Loop Specifications
- Function: phase-locked loop with VCO, phase detector and amplifier
- Operating frequency: up to 500 kHz
- Supply voltage: ±5 V to ±12 V dual supply
- VCO stability: 200 ppm/°C typical
- Demodulated output linearity: 0.2 %
- VCO outputs: linear triangle wave and square wave
- Logic compatibility: TTL and DTL compatible phase detector input and square wave output
- Hold-in range: adjustable from ±1 % to more than ±60 %
LM565 IC Phase Locked Loop Applications
- FM demodulation and FSK data receivers (modems)
- Tone decoding and frequency detection
- Frequency synthesis, multiplication and division
- Data and tape synchronisation, signal regeneration
- Telemetry receivers and communication labs
What's in the Box
- 1 × LM565 phase locked loop IC
Tip: The free-running VCO frequency is set by an external resistor and capacitor, roughly f0 ≈ 0.3 / (R1 × C1), with R1 kept between 2 kΩ and 20 kΩ. Decouple both supply pins with 100 nF capacitors placed close to the IC for stable locking.
