Description

The MAX30100 Heart-Rate Oximeter pulse sensor module is built around the MAX30100 chip, which combines a red LED, an infrared LED and a photodetector in one small package. Place a fingertip on the sensor and it measures the light passing through the skin, which lets a microcontroller calculate heart rate and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2). It connects over I2C and is popular for wearable, fitness and health monitoring projects with Arduino and ESP32.

MAX30100 Heart-Rate Oximeter Specifications

  • Sensor IC: MAX30100 pulse oximeter and heart-rate sensor
  • Measures: pulse (heart rate) and SpO2
  • Optics: red and infrared LEDs with a photodetector
  • Interface: I2C, address 0x57
  • Features: ambient light cancellation and a 16-sample FIFO buffer
  • Works with: Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266 and Raspberry Pi

MAX30100 Heart-Rate Oximeter Applications

  • DIY pulse oximeters and heart-rate monitors
  • Fitness trackers and wearable prototypes
  • IoT health dashboards with ESP32 Wi-Fi
  • Biomedical engineering projects and university labs

What's in the Box

  • 1 × MAX30100 pulse oximeter sensor module

Tip: Rest your finger lightly on the sensor and keep it still; pressing hard or moving gives unstable readings. Check the I2C pull-up voltage on your board version before connecting it to a 5 V Arduino. This is a hobby sensor, not a medical device, so do not use it for diagnosis.
