MAX485 TTL to RS485 Converter Module

The MAX485 TTL to RS485 Converter Module connects the TTL serial (UART) pins of a microcontroller to an RS-485 differential bus. RS-485 sends data over a twisted pair of wires, so it works over much longer cables and in noisier places than plain TTL serial. It is a low-cost way to add Modbus RTU, long-distance sensor links and multi-device networks to Arduino and ESP32 projects.

Tip: Tie RE and DE together to one digital pin: set it HIGH to transmit and LOW to receive. Connect A to A and B to B on every device, use twisted-pair cable for long runs, and fit a 120 Ω termination resistor across A and B only at the two ends of the bus. The module runs on 5 V, so with a 3.3 V board such as the ESP32 check the RO output level before connecting it.
