Description

The MMA7361 Angle Acceleration Sensor module is a 3-axis analog accelerometer based on the Freescale (NXP) MMA7361L, the successor to the older MMA7260. It gives three analog voltages for the X, Y and Z axes, so you can read tilt angle, vibration and movement with any microcontroller analog input. A selectable ±1.5 g or ±6 g range, a sleep mode and a free-fall output make it flexible for both precise tilt sensing and impact detection.

MMA7361 Angle Acceleration Sensor Specifications

  • Sensor: MMA7361L 3-axis analog accelerometer
  • Ranges: ±1.5 g or ±6 g, selected with the GS pin
  • Sensitivity: 800 mV/g at ±1.5 g, about 206 mV/g at ±6 g
  • Outputs: analog X, Y and Z
  • Features: sleep mode (about 3 µA), 0g-detect output for free fall, self-test
  • Current draw: about 400 µA typical
  • Module pins: 5V, 3V3, GND, GS, ST, X, Y, Z, SL and 0G

MMA7361 Angle Acceleration Sensor Applications

  • Tilt and angle measurement
  • Balancing robots and self-levelling platforms
  • Vibration and shock monitoring
  • Free-fall detection and motion-triggered alarms

What's in the Box

  • 1 × MMA7361 accelerometer module

Tip: The SL (sleep) pin is active low, so pull it high or the outputs will stay at zero. At rest each axis reads about half the sensor supply, and since the outputs swing around 3.3 V, connect AREF to 3.3 V on a 5 V Arduino for better resolution.
