Description

The Moisture Sensor Grove measures how wet the soil is around a plant. Its two probes push into the soil, and the module gives an analog voltage that rises as the soil holds more water, so an Arduino can read it with analogRead() and decide when to water. The Grove connector plugs into a Grove Base Shield with a single cable, which makes it quick to set up in classrooms and garden projects.

Moisture Sensor Grove Specifications

  • Operating voltage: 3.3–5 V
  • Operating current: about 35 mA
  • Output: analog, higher value in wetter soil
  • Typical readings: 0–300 in dry soil, 300–700 in humid soil, 700–950 in water
  • Board size: 20 × 60 mm
  • Interface: Grove 4-pin connector

Moisture Sensor Grove Applications

  • Plant watering alarms
  • Automatic irrigation with a relay and a water pump
  • Garden and greenhouse soil monitoring
  • Science experiments and STEM projects

What's in the Box

  • 1 × Moisture Sensor Grove module

Tip: Connect the module to an analog Grove port such as A0, then note the readings in your own dry and freshly watered soil to set the watering threshold. Insert only the probe part into the soil, keep the electronics dry, and clean the probes now and then, as exposed probes slowly corrode in wet soil.
