Description
The MQ-2 Smoke Gas Sensor Module detects smoke and flammable gases such as LPG, propane, butane, methane and hydrogen. The MQ-2 sensing element changes its resistance as the gas concentration rises, and the module turns this into an analog voltage plus a digital alarm output with an adjustable threshold. It is a popular choice for gas leak alarms, smoke detectors and air-quality experiments with Arduino and ESP32.
MQ-2 Smoke Gas Sensor Module Specifications
- Sensor: MQ-2 tin dioxide (SnO₂) gas sensor with built-in heater
- Detects: smoke, LPG, propane, butane, methane, hydrogen and alcohol vapour
- Detection range: about 300–10,000 ppm (combustible gases)
- Supply voltage: 5 V
- Heater current: about 150 mA
- Outputs: AO (analog) and DO (digital, threshold set by potentiometer)
- Pins: VCC, GND, DO, AO
MQ-2 Smoke Gas Sensor Module Applications
- Kitchen gas leak alarms for LPG cylinders
- Smoke detection projects
- Home automation and safety systems with Arduino or ESP32
- Air-quality and gas experiments in STEM classes
What's in the Box
- 1 × MQ-2 smoke and gas sensor module
Tip: The heater needs time to stabilise, so let the sensor warm up for a few minutes before taking readings, and run it for about 24 hours the first time for the most stable results. Without calibration it shows changes in gas level rather than exact ppm values, so do not use it as a certified safety device.
