Description

The Sim800L GPRS GSM Module is a very small quad-band GSM/GPRS core board based on the SIMCom SIM800L, with a micro SIM card slot and a TTL serial port. Controlled with simple AT commands from an Arduino, ESP32 or Raspberry Pi, it can send and receive SMS messages, make voice calls and connect to the internet over GPRS, which makes it a popular choice for remote alarms, trackers and IoT projects.

Sim800L GPRS GSM Module Specifications

  • Chip: SIMCom SIM800L
  • Network: 2G GSM/GPRS, quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
  • Data: GPRS multi-slot class 12
  • SIM card: micro SIM slot
  • Interface: TTL serial (UART), controlled with AT commands
  • Supply voltage: 3.4–4.4 V (SIM800L range); a single 3.7 V Li-ion cell suits it
  • Peak current: up to 2 A during transmission bursts

Sim800L GPRS GSM Module Applications

  • SMS alerts from alarms, sensors and water-level monitors
  • Vehicle and asset trackers together with a GPS module
  • Remote control of pumps, gates and relays by SMS or phone call
  • Sending sensor data to a server over GPRS
  • IoT and telemetry projects in places without Wi-Fi

What's in the Box

  • 1 × SIM800L GSM/GPRS core board

Tip: Power the module from a 3.7–4.2 V source that can deliver 2 A peaks, such as a Li-ion cell or a buck converter, not from the Arduino 5 V or 3.3 V pin, and add a large capacitor close to the module. The SIM800L works only on 2G GSM networks, so check that your SIM card and operator still support 2G.
