Description

The SN74132 NAND Schmitt Trigger IC is a 74-series TTL logic chip with four 2-input NAND gates whose inputs have Schmitt-trigger action. Thanks to the built-in hysteresis, slow or noisy input signals still give clean, fast output edges, so it is ideal for squaring up slow waveforms, debouncing switches and building simple oscillators.

SN74132 NAND Schmitt Trigger IC Specifications

  • Function: 4 × 2-input NAND gates with Schmitt-trigger inputs
  • Logic: Y = NOT (A AND B)
  • Logic family: standard TTL (74 series)
  • Supply voltage: 5 V (4.75–5.25 V)
  • Hysteresis: about 0.8 V typical
  • Pins: 14 (VCC on pin 14, GND on pin 7)
  • Pinout: same as the 7400 quad NAND gate

SN74132 NAND Schmitt Trigger IC Applications

  • Cleaning up slow or noisy digital signals
  • Debouncing push buttons and mechanical switches
  • Simple RC square-wave oscillators and clock generators
  • Turning sine waves or sensor pulses into clean logic levels
  • Digital logic labs and university electronics courses

What's in the Box

  • 1 × SN74132 quad 2-input NAND Schmitt trigger IC

Tip: Connect pin 14 to +5 V and pin 7 to GND, with a 100 nF decoupling capacitor close to the chip. Because it is a TTL part, keep the supply at 5 V; for 3.3 V systems use a 74HC132 instead.
