Description

The Soil Moisture Detection Humidity Sensor module measures how wet the soil is, using a fork-shaped probe pushed into the soil and a small comparator board. It gives an analog output that follows the moisture level and a digital output that switches at a threshold you set with the potentiometer, so an Arduino, ESP32 or ESP8266 can tell when plants need water.

Soil Moisture Detection Humidity Sensor Specifications

  • Sensing: resistive fork probe with two electrodes
  • Outputs: analog (AO) and digital (DO)
  • Threshold: adjustable with the onboard potentiometer (digital output)
  • Supply voltage: 3.3 V to 5 V
  • Connection: Dupont jumper wires

Soil Moisture Detection Humidity Sensor Applications

  • Automatic plant watering with a relay and water pump
  • Garden and greenhouse soil monitoring
  • IoT plant monitors with an ESP32 or ESP8266 sending data to a phone or Google Sheets
  • School science and STEM projects about plants

What's in the Box

  • 1 × soil moisture probe
  • 1 × comparator module board with analog and digital outputs
  • Dupont connecting wires

Tip: The probe electrodes corrode faster when they are powered all the time, so power the sensor from a digital pin and switch it on only when you take a reading. On most boards the analog reading rises as the soil gets drier, so record the values in dry and wet soil to calibrate your project.
