Description

The Sound Detection Sensor Module is a small board with an electret microphone and an onboard comparator that switches a digital output when the sound level goes above a threshold you set with the potentiometer. It lets an Arduino, ESP32 or ESP8266 react to claps, knocks, voices and other loud sounds, and it is a popular part for beginner and robotics projects.

Sound Detection Sensor Module Specifications

  • Sensor: electret condenser microphone
  • Output: digital (DO), changes state when the sound passes the threshold
  • Sensitivity: adjustable with the onboard potentiometer
  • Supply voltage: 3.3 V to 5 V
  • Connection: header pins for Dupont jumper wires
  • Works with: Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266 and other microcontroller digital inputs

Sound Detection Sensor Module Applications

  • Clap switches and sound-activated lights
  • Noise alarms and sound detection in rooms
  • Robots that start, stop or turn when they hear a sound
  • Knock and tap detection projects
  • STEM classes and sensor kits

What's in the Box

  • 1 × sound detection sensor module

Tip: In a quiet room, turn the potentiometer slowly until the output just stops triggering; a clap or knock will then switch it. The module detects how loud a sound is, it does not record audio or recognise words. For 3.3 V boards such as the ESP32, power it from 3.3 V.
