Description

The SW-520D Vibration Sensor is a metal ball tilt switch: a small cylindrical switch with two leads and a metal ball inside. When the switch stands upright the ball rests across the contacts and the circuit is closed; when it is tilted far enough, or shaken, the ball moves away and the circuit opens. It is a simple, low-cost way to detect tilting, tipping and vibration with an Arduino, ESP32 or a basic transistor circuit.

SW-520D Vibration Sensor Specifications

  • Type: metal ball tilt and vibration switch
  • Leads: 2, no polarity
  • Contact state: closed when upright, open when tilted
  • Output: on/off contact, read with a digital input
  • Mounting: through-hole, fits breadboards and PCBs

SW-520D Vibration Sensor Applications

  • Tilt and tip-over alarms
  • Vibration and knock detection for anti-theft alarms
  • Toys and games that react to shaking or tilting
  • Wake-up triggers for battery-powered devices
  • Learning digital inputs in electronics classes

What's in the Box

  • 1 × SW-520D metal ball tilt switch

Tip: Connect one lead to a digital pin and the other to GND, then use pinMode(pin, INPUT_PULLUP): the pin reads LOW when the switch is upright and HIGH when it is tilted. The ball bounces on the contacts, so debounce the signal in code, or count the pulses to measure vibration.
