Description
The Tilt Switch Module KY020 is a small sensor board with a ball tilt switch that tells your microcontroller whether it is upright or tilted. Inside the switch, a small metal ball rolls to connect or disconnect two contacts as the module changes angle, giving a simple digital on/off signal. It is an easy, low-cost way to detect tilting, tipping or shaking in Arduino, ESP32 and Raspberry Pi projects.
Tilt Switch Module KY020 Specifications
- Sensor: ball tilt switch
- Output: digital, on/off
- Pins: 3, signal (S), VCC and GND
- Supply voltage: 3.3–5 V
- Compatible with: Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi and micro:bit
Tilt Switch Module KY020 Applications
- Tip-over and fall detection
- Movement and anti-theft alarms
- Toys and games that react to shaking or tilting
- Checking whether a box or device is upright or upside down
- Learning how digital inputs work
What's in the Box
- 1 × KY-020 tilt switch module
Tip: The ball can bounce on the contacts, so debounce the signal in code by ignoring changes for about 50 ms. The switch only tells you tilted or not tilted; to measure an angle, use an accelerometer such as the MPU6050.
