Description
The TIP41C is an NPN bipolar power transistor in a TO-220 package, rated 100 V and 6 A continuous collector current with 65 W of power dissipation. It pairs with the PNP TIP42C in push-pull audio stages and H-bridges, and on its own it switches motors, relays, solenoids and LED strips from a low-current control signal.
TIP41C Specifications
- Type: NPN bipolar junction transistor (BJT)
- Collector-emitter voltage (VCEO): 100 V
- Collector current (IC): 6 A continuous, 10 A peak
- Power dissipation: 65 W with the case at 25 °C
- DC current gain (hFE): 15–75 at 3 A
- Transition frequency: 3 MHz minimum
- Package: TO-220, pins 1-2-3 = base, collector, emitter (tab = collector)
- Complement: TIP42C (PNP)
TIP41C Applications
- Push-pull audio amplifier output stages with the TIP42C
- Low-side switching of DC motors, relays, solenoids and LED strips
- Linear voltage regulators and pass transistors
- H-bridge motor drivers built from discrete transistors
What's in the Box
- 1 × TIP41C NPN transistor
Tip: To switch a load from an Arduino, connect the emitter to ground, put the load between the positive supply and the collector, and drive the base through a resistor of about 220 Ω to 1 kΩ. With a gain as low as 15 at 3 A, heavy loads may need more base current than a pin can supply, so use a driver stage or a logic-level MOSFET for those, and add a flyback diode across inductive loads.
