Transformer 12-0-12V 40VA

The Transformer 12-0-12V 40VA is a centre-tapped step-down transformer with a 12-0-12 V secondary and a 40 VA power rating. Each half of the secondary gives 12 V AC, and the full winding gives 24 V AC end to end. It is a good size for dual-rail op-amp supplies, small audio amplifiers, battery chargers and regulated DC supplies for control boards and relays.

Tip: Each 12 V half gives about 16 V DC at light load after a rectifier and filter capacitor, so choose capacitors rated 25 V or more. The primary runs at mains voltage: insulate every primary connection, fit a fuse and unplug the transformer before touching the wiring.
