Transformer 18-0-18V 10VA

The Transformer 18-0-18V 10VA is a centre-tapped step-down transformer with an 18-0-18 V AC secondary and a 10 VA power rating. It supplies 18 V AC on each half or 36 V AC across the whole winding, at up to about 280 mA, which is enough for op-amp circuits, audio preamplifiers, mixers and other low-current analogue projects that need a positive and a negative rail.

Tip: Each 18 V half gives about 24–25 V DC after rectification and filtering at light load, and small transformers read higher still with no load, so use capacitors rated 35 V or, better, 50 V. The primary is at mains voltage: insulate it, add a fuse and only work on it when it is unplugged.
