Transformer 9-0-9V 50VA

The Transformer 9-0-9V 50VA is a centre-tapped step-down transformer with a 9-0-9 V AC secondary and a 50 VA power rating. The two 9 V halves can be used with the centre tap for full-wave rectification, or together as 18 V AC, with up to about 2.8 A available. It is a good base for low-voltage, medium-current linear supplies, small amplifiers and electronics lab benches.

Tip: After rectification and filtering, each 9 V half gives about 12 V DC at light load, so 25 V filter capacitors are suitable; use 35 V capacitors for the full 18 V winding. Heatsink the rectifier and regulator at high currents. The primary connects to mains: insulate it, fit a fuse and never work on it while it is plugged in.
