Transformer OUT:2X12VAC 3000MA

The Transformer OUT:2X12VAC 3000MA is a step-down mains transformer with two 12 V AC secondary outputs (2 × 12 V) and a current rating of 3000 mA (3 A). Joined in series, the two sections give 24 V AC end to end, or a 12-0-12 V supply with the midpoint as a centre tap. It is a solid base for linear power supplies, dual-rail supplies for audio amplifiers and bench power projects.

Tip: After a bridge rectifier and filter capacitor, a 12 V AC winding gives roughly 15–16 V DC at light load (12 V × 1.41 minus the diode drops), so use capacitors rated at least 25 V. Count the secondary wires before wiring: three usually means one centre-tapped winding, four means two separate windings. The primary connects to mains, so insulate it and fit a fuse.
