Description
The MAX4466 Sound Sensor Module (GY-MAX4466) is an electret microphone amplifier board built around the MAX4466 low-noise op-amp. It turns sound into an analog audio signal that an Arduino, ESP32 or other microcontroller can sample, and a small trimmer potentiometer on the board lets you set the gain. It is supplied unsoldered, so you solder the header pins or wires yourself.
MAX4466 Sound Sensor Module Specifications
- Amplifier IC: MAX4466 microphone op-amp with rail-to-rail output
- Microphone: electret capsule on the board
- Supply voltage: 2.4–5.5 V
- Output: analog audio signal centred at about half the supply voltage
- Gain: adjustable with the on-board trimmer
- Pins: VCC, GND and OUT
- Condition: unsoldered
MAX4466 Sound Sensor Module Applications
- Sound level meters and clap or noise-activated switches
- Audio visualisers and VU meters with LED strips
- Noise and voice detection with ESP32 or ESP8266
- Sampling audio for FFT and signal processing experiments
What's in the Box
- 1 × GY-MAX4466 microphone amplifier module (unsoldered)
Tip: Power it from 3.3 V where you can, as this rail is usually quieter than 5 V on Arduino boards, and connect OUT to an analog input. In silence the output sits at about half the supply voltage and sound swings it above and below that level, so measure the peak-to-peak swing over a short window to get the loudness.
