Description
The USB TO TTL PL2303 is a USB to serial (UART) adapter based on the Prolific PL2303 chip. Plugged into a computer, it appears as a virtual COM port and converts USB data into TTL-level TX and RX signals, so you can talk to microcontrollers, GPS and GSM modules and other devices with a serial port. It is also a low-cost way to flash and debug ESP8266, ESP32 and other boards that have no built-in USB port.
USB TO TTL PL2303 Specifications
- Chip: Prolific PL2303 USB to UART bridge
- Host connection: USB, shows up as a virtual COM port
- Signals: TXD, RXD and GND, plus power pins
- Logic: TTL-level serial (not RS-232 voltage levels)
- Drivers: Prolific driver on Windows; built-in support on Linux
USB TO TTL PL2303 Applications
- Flashing firmware to ESP8266 (ESP-01) and ESP32 modules
- Reading serial debug output from microcontrollers
- Sending AT commands to GPS, GSM and Bluetooth modules
- Serial console access to routers and embedded boards
What's in the Box

Tip: Cross the data lines: adapter TXD to the device RX, adapter RXD to the device TX, and connect GND to GND. Check the logic level your device needs (3.3 V or 5 V) before connecting, and if Windows shows an error for the port, install a Prolific driver version that supports your chip.
