Description

The Vibration Sensor SW-420 Grove is a Grove-system module built around the SW-420 vibration switch. The SW-420 is a normally closed spring contact that briefly opens when the board is shaken, tapped or knocked, and the module turns this into a digital signal that a microcontroller can read. With its Grove connector it plugs into a Grove Base Shield with one cable, so no breadboard wiring or soldering is needed.

Vibration Sensor SW-420 Grove Specifications

  • Sensing element: SW-420 normally closed vibration switch
  • Detects: vibration, knocks and shocks
  • Output: digital signal on one SIG line
  • Connector: standard 4-pin Grove
  • Compatibility: Arduino, Seeeduino and other boards with Grove ports

Vibration Sensor SW-420 Grove Applications

  • Anti-theft and tamper alarms on doors, drawers, boxes and bikes
  • Knock and tap detection for interactive projects
  • Checking whether a machine, fan or motor is running
  • Shake and earthquake demonstrations in science classes
  • Grove-based school and STEM kits

What's in the Box

  • 1 × Grove SW-420 vibration sensor module

Tip: Connect it to a digital Grove port such as D2 and read it with digitalRead() or an interrupt; add a short debounce in code, because one knock can produce several quick pulses. Fix the module firmly to the object you want to monitor, since a loose board picks up less vibration.
